For me, everything I do is about people. I started in retail during my schooling years before moving (like most people in Canberra do) to Government. I spent 6 years wearing many hats – trainer, manager, administrator, subject matter expert, business support and more. My least favourite sentence is “that’s the way we’ve always done it” – I want to always change the lens and do it differently.
I worked in and managed teams around entry level government in Canberra which always saw a high turnover. While this meant a lot of work in recruiting or training staff, it also allowed me to meet a lot of great people and help a lot of people progress their career to the next stage. I was lucky to have great mentors during the foundations of my professional career, so I always relish the opportunity to pay these lessons forward, along with some of my own I’ve collected along the way. I am not someone who always gets it right, but I am someone who gets it right the next time after extracting every useful lesson.
I flew the coop and moved to Melbourne to live life a little faster and joined the Australian Electoral Commission. Returning the seat of Macnamara, I got first hand insight to the incredibly fast and complex world of the Australian electoral process and the extreme volume of project and stakeholder management to deliver democracy.
I have a passion in all things sports, extending to my committee work with a proud and inclusive football club. Both on and off the field, success is measured in the achievements of the team. A Cert IV in training and assessment, foundations coaching certificate and current study of Criminology along with a lot of reading around the social sciences fills my cup being around people and learning more about the way they work.
Strategic thinking, adaptability, culture and a passion for “doing the right thing” over “doing things right” are the skills I hang my hat on. They have allowed me to adapt quickly to new environments and interact with people from all walks of life. I endeavour to perfectly marry professional determination with a fulfilling human interaction; mutually beneficial partnerships, not transactional relationships
